Wooden carved box, arduino, touch sensor and bluetooth speaker

In this collaboration with Réiltín O’Hagan, we designed an interactive installation that uses sensory stimuli to reinforce the individuality of three retellings of the same folk tale. The hand-carved box played a different recording for each object as it was dropped through its corresponding opening, and each object was designed to enhance a certain quality or atmosphere that its audio evoked.
We used carved wood, chiseled stone and hand-tufted felt to craft three items of varying shapes, textures, weights, densities and temperatures.
Three people of different ages and backgrounds told the story of ‘oisín in tír na nóg’, an irish myth, as they recalled it. each retelling emphasises different elements of the story, and therefore highlights different aspects of the person who tells it.
